My Grand To-Do List

June 20, 2008

I’ve had this mental to-do list for quite some time. This summer, I seem to be adding to it daily, so I’m going to actually write down some of the things I know I want to accomplish. Be it “make lasagna” (believe it or not, I never have), or “visit Italy,” there is no item too grand or small to escape the etched-ness of this list.

In absolutely random order:

- white-water raft down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon
- eat gelato in Italy
- learn Italian ((I did go out and buy a few books… and I can greet, tell you that my dad’s a doctor (he’s not, really, but I can say that), and that the lamp is pretty)).
- design/craft my own greeting cards and open a coffee/card/flower shop (I’ve got cardstock. And a business card of shop in Mpls that said they’d carry them! That’s about as far as I’ve gotten).
- become a yoga instructor (turns out I can get certified in 9 weeks…)
- move out of state for a little while (but come back, because I heart MN)
- get published (a reputable blog or local publication would be wonderful enough for me)
- get another tattoo (a lily? a shamrock?)
- make lasagna
- see every Major League Baseball park in existence (so far, I’ve been to 6, two of which are no longer: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, MO; Fulton County Stadium, Atlanta, GA; Metrodome, Minneapolis, MN; Miller Park, Milwaukee, WI; Camden Yards, Baltimore, MD; US Cellular Field, Chicago, IL)
- meet Jon Stewart
- go to Australia
- go to London
- ok, go all over Europe

To be continued…

Things I Decided I’m Going to Do, Even If I Have to Do them Myself:
- See at least one 1930s comedy showing at the Parkway Theater in Minneapolis on Mondays between now and 4/28. I REALLY think that A Philadelphia Story should be one of the picks, but ah well, I’ll have to make do with other Cary Grant goodness.
- do the museum thing around here, especially when it’s free
- check out local bands – LIVE – instead of just their MySpace pages
- MN ROLLERGIRLS?!
- Join/Start a book club
- Join/Start a wine club
- Join/Start a book/wine club

Party Like It’s 2004

October 15, 2007

Every so often Cynthia Turner throws out a “Special Edition” newsletter to add some more spice to her already fun and informative “Cynopsis” and my favorite, “Cynopsis: Digital.”  Today was a flashback to 2004.  Here are some highlights from today’s newsletter:

Greetings! It’s Monday, October 15, 2007 and this is your Cynopsis Special Edition, taking a look back at the Year 2004.

    Celeb To-Do List

    October 6, 2007

    Original Post Date: 01/07

This girl I know said every girl should have one. Here’s mine: (in random order, I must add, and must also note that these folks don’t necessarily HAVE to be around these days):

    1. Jon Stewart
    2. Cary Grant
    3. Ryan Reynolds
    4. Zach Braff
    5. Taye Diggs
    6. Patrick Dempsey
    7. Justin Chambers
    8. Adam Brody
    9. Samaire Armstrong
    10. Shannyn Sossamon

    Honorable mentions:

Eric Szmanda (the chemistry geek on CSI: Las Vegas) and Jonathan Togo (the chem geek on CSI: Miami – I’m convinced this is the same person. Or they could be brothers)

One of these days I will actually put these in order…

(This is a work in progress)

Things I Learned From My Mom:

    - Spray nonstick cooking spray over the sink so it doesn’t get on the floor. (or anywhere else)
    - Safety in numbers.
    - Sit up straight.
    - How to make [southern] sweet tea. (Is there any other kind of iced tea???)
    - You can substitute all-purpose flour for self-rising if you know what to do with the baking soda and salt.
    - Baking soda is NOT baking powder.
    - Tom Glavine is a STUD.
    - So is John Smoltz.
    - The Muppets will ALWAYS be funny.

Things I Learned From My Dad:
    - Red wine is red because the skins are left on during the fermentation process.
    - How to say “gewurztraminer,” “sangiovese,” and “viognier” (guh-vurtz-tra-meen-er, Sahnj-eeyo-vay-zay, and vee-oh-nyay).
    - How to throw a softball.
    - How to swing a golf club.
    - How NOT to put a headboard on. (Mine’s on backwards, thanks)

    New Year’s Resolutions

    January 2, 2007

    1. Post to a blog more regulary. (For some reason I think creating a new one will make that happen, much like I think buying new workout clothes will mean I hit the gym more.) I also wonder if that means I have to commit to just one… Posting to a blog doesn’t necessarily mean my little online diary…
    2. Hit the gym more.
    3. Visit oldest and dearest friend in Denver. (This is a whole slew of resolutions, as it involves budgeting, prioritizing, and money-saving.)
    4. Take a cooking class.
    5. Attend more wine tastings.
    6. Gut out my bedroom and get rid of things I don’t use/wear/need.
